Dave and Susan Dudas, co-founders of the Edge Academy, established Akros Middle School for parents that demand a choice for their child's education.

Dear 8th Grade Families,

          I know that this has been a hard time for everyone and we have been working on ways to make this last year of your child’s middle school education special. The administrative team has decided to still hold 8th grade graduation on May 20th at 5:30 pm and a rain date of May 21st at 5:30 pm but we will use a modified format. The graduation will be a drive thru style. Each graduate will be allowed only one car with their family members. The cars will gather at the Edge parking lot and the gravel parking lot by edge starting at 5:15. Each car will be giving a placard with your graduates name on it so we know which student is in the car (please have the graduate sit by a window that opens). Then each car will be escorted through the Akros parking lot where the graduate will be handed their diploma and tassel. In order to keep everyone safe and allow us to hold this type of graduation ceremony everyone must remain in their cars at all times. If you would like to take pictures as a family after the event off school property that is fine. We know that this is an important time in your child’s educational career so we hope all graduates and their families will attend.

                                                                                          Sincerely,

                                                                                          Akros Administrative Team

March 5th, 2020

Dear members of The Edge Academy and Akros Middle School community,

The School is aware that the recent spread of Covid-19 (sometimes referred to as “coronavirus,” “Wuhan coronavirus,” or “novel coronavirus”) has caused alarm worldwide. At this time the United States Center for Disease Control (“CDC”) and Ohio Department of Health believe that the risk to the general public is low. Nonetheless, out of an abundance of caution, the School is taking steps to prepare for the possibility of an outbreak of Covid-19.

Rest assured that the School currently has policies and procedures, including an emergency management plan, in place to address the threat of contagious illnesses, and the School will follow all applicable federal, state and local directives regarding this disease.

Student absences due to illness will be excused, and we ask that you please keep your child home if he or she is exhibiting signs of a contagious disease. You should contact your doctor or local hospital if you suspect that your child or a member of your household is exhibiting signs or symptoms of Covid-19 (specifically, fever, cough, and shortness of breath). In the event that your child or a member of your household is suspected of exposure to Covid-19, you must contact the school via telephone immediately.

Please remember that common-sense preventative actions may go a long way in preventing the spread of illnesses, including Covid-19. Specifically,

•           Remember to wash your hands frequently (using soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds) or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer;

•           Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing;

•           Avoid contact with people who are sick;

•           Frequently clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces at-home;

•           Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth; and

•           Stay home if you are sick.

Additional information regarding Covid-19 is available by visiting www.CDC.gov and www.ODH.Ohio.Gov. You may also contact the School if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Faith DeCesare-Director
