Dave and Susan Dudas, co-founders of the Edge Academy, established Akros Middle School for parents that demand a choice for their child's education.

Dear Parents/Guardians

I first want to extend our gratitude and thanks for everything that you have done during these three weeks that the school has been closed. Many of you have ensured that you have picked up your child’s work and a lot of you have come to the school daily to receive breakfast and lunch for your child. These are unprecedented times that have created a difficult learning situation for all of the students, staff, and families of The Edge Academy and Akros Middle School. The week of March 30th –April 3rd is the schools planned spring break. During this time the administrative team will be working on a plan to continue to provide education to all students while they are not allowed in the building. This will take a group effort from our families, staff members, and students.

Our plan moving forward and until students are allowed back in the building or the remainder of the school year is to move to an online learning platform for all students in grades K-8. This will mean a few things for all of our parents:

  1. You need to drop of the completed work that your child did during the first 2 weeks of the closure. We will have bins outside the front doors from 9-2pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday clearly marked for you to place the work in (please make sure all of your child’s work is together and clearly marked with their name and teacher name) or you may drop the work off when you pick up your child’s meals.
  2. We had teachers make contact with parents who are in need of a technology device at home those that responded that they will need a device will need to pick up their device April 8th-9th at the back parking lot of Edge by the main entrance of Akros. (please remain in your car and a member of the admin team will bring the device to your car) These devices need to be returned at the end of the school year and will only be handed out to families who are in need as we do not have enough for every student at this time.
  3. We will officially start online learning the week of April 13th, this will allow parents to have time to get technology set up and teachers to make contact with their students.
  4. If you do not have internet at home you will need to contact your child’s teacher and let them know so that a member of the administrative team can help you get free internet for the next 90 days. (several companies are offering this service)
  5. We will need your help to support your child to ensure that they are logging on to their google classroom during their class time and completing all online assignments there is a link on the schools website to the virtual learning where teachers will post assignments and links to each teacher’s google classroom.
  6. There will be office hours at the school Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am-2pm if you need help with the technology at home.
